Biography

Don Torrance is a documentary filmmaker, journalist and producer whose science journalism has appeared in broadcast, online and print outlets. Over a 30-year career he produced content for PBS; “Science Times,” the New York Times science television news magazine; National Public Radio; Science Magazine; and Nature Conservancy Magazine. He has produced several documentary films and environmental science television programs. He specializes in the environment, natural history and human health. Torrance has produced, written and directed documentaries on protecting marine environments; the international struggle against tropical diseases; the quest for new vaccines; and bringing health care to people in the developing world. Projects have taken him to Africa, Australia, Central and South America, Europe, Canada and all over the U.S. Torrance is a former health and science correspondent and anchor for WUSA-TV, the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, he worked as a reporter and anchor for ABC’s Satellite News Channel in Washington and New York, and for WNET (PBS) in New York. He served as moderator for “CenterNet,” a national interactive network for the academic health centers community, and as guest host of “Science Journal,” the PBS science news magazine. His work has won numerous awards, including four Emmys.
