PhD, Civil & Environmental Engineering

Biography

Shiru Wang is a PhD student in environmental engineering at Syracuse University. She received her B.S from Ningbo University in Chemistry and an MS in Environmental Engineering from Syracuse University. During her time at SU in graduate school, she served as a graduate teaching assistant in Fall 2017. She mentored an undergraduate for an independent research project. She has also joined the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) program as an associate. Currently, she works with Dr. Teng Zeng and Upstate Freshwater Institute (a not-for-profit research corporation dedicated to the improvement of water quality). Her research interest is applying a suspect screening approach based upon high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) to identify and quantify emerging contaminants in Onondaga lake system in Syracuse. Ongoing work in her lab focuses on studying seasonal variation, mass balance modeling and the fate processes, such as photochemical degradation.
